If I visit Amazon.com and search for the album Rock Action by Mogwai, I am directed to a page with this URL: http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Action-Mogwai/dp/B00005AUBA/ ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1203311335&sr=8-1
You have to admit that one thing Amazon did do right is move the title of the item to the beginning. Before it was http://www.amazon.com/{bunch of garbage}/title-of-item.
The benefit of putting the title first is that it makes it useful when someone is typing in the url into their location bar. As they type amazon.com/R their most browsers will show a list of previous pages you’ve visited starting with R.
This is a really important technique in my opinion, something that I’m always going to keep in mind when developing new projects. If you HAVE to have some sort of identifier in the url, at least put the pretty part first.
