I never used to care about genealogy - it seemed like stamp collecting, plus self-centeredness. As I grow older, it interests me more, and it doesn’t hurt when there’s a free, excellent tool like this out there. Loads of features, cleverly kept out of sight for the most part.
P.S. If you take it seriously and use Geni as your main store of family info, you should at least consider the privacy issues involved. I decided I was fine with giving them most of this data, but I understand that the potential for abuse is substantial.
I really like Geni, I think it’s important to keep track of this kind of information. I had a couple old binders of tree data that I added to geni a while back. Since then my other family members have filled out at least 600 more relatives. Here are my stats
